New York City Subway Token Ring

New York City Subway Token Ring -

Just added these really nice looking NYC subway token rings to the lineup. These ring come out truly amazing. Where a piece of New York history on your finger.

History

New York subway token were used from 1953 - 2003

They had a few different styles. See them all at http://www.nycsubway.org/wiki/New_York_City_Subway_Tokens

The style that I use to make the token ring is:

Large Y" Token

  • 1970-1972: 30 cents
  • 1972-1975: 35 cents
  • 1975-1980: 50 cents

Mintage 50 million. The large Y cutout comes in two varieties, one with larger lettering than the other. The large letter variety is slightly scarcer than the smaller letter variety. To tell the difference: The large letter variety looks like the lettering on the solid brass NYC token. On "NYC" the legs of the N are not deeply cut and there are no hooks on the C. The small letter type looks similar to the preceding small-Y variety, with both deeper cuts and hooks.

How to Get Your Ring Size for Coin RIngs

DON'T KNOW YOUR SIZE?????

OPTION #1:

BEST OPTION IS TO GO TO A JEWELRY STORE (WALMART OR TARGET) AND GET SIZED PROPERLY. ANY STORE THAT HAS A JEWELRY SECTION SHOULD HAVE A RING SIZER.

OPTION #2

Instructions for at home finger sizing.

 Things You'll Need:

  • Ruler
  • Thin strip of paper
  1. Cut a thin strip of paper
  2. Wrap the paper around your finger. Make sure the paper is below the joint of your finger and close to your knuckle.
  3. Mark the spot where the paper meets and measure the distance with your ruler.
  4. Use the following chart to determine your ring size. Rings also come in half sizes, the measurements of which, of course, will fall somewhere in between the whole size.
  5. Make sure the strip of paper is nice and snug on your finger, otherwise the ring may slide off.

 SIZING CHART:

Size 4: 1 13/16 inches

Size 5: 1 15/16 inches

Size 6: 2 1/16 inches

Size 7: 2 1/8 inches

Size 8: 2 1/4 inches

Size 9: 2 5/16 inches

Size 10: 2 7/16 inches

Size 11: 2 9/16 inches

Size 12: 2 5/8 inches

Size 13: 2 3/4 inches

Swallowing a quarter and making a coin ring from it. CRAZY STORY

This is a portion of the email that a customer sent me.

Hi Kevin…

I have a very unique quarter that I would like made into a ring, I swallowed this quarter when I was 10 years old and as the story goes my father was getting ready to do a tracheotomy with a ballpoint pen and I finally swallowed it, well took a few days of sifting through my crap and we found. I've held onto this coin for many many years approximately 42 years and I would like to have it turned into a ring that I can wear. It's heavily oxygenated as the acid in my stomach kind of did a number on it. It is a quarter and I'm not sure if you can turn that into a man's brain I'm going to measure with a piece of paper what size my finger is.

Is this doable based on my finger size?

ME: Hopefully we can make this happen. I will post pics if I get the coin with a before and after.
